Nikon D3S, Ultimate Wedding Camera

Digital Photography Review just did their typical exhaustive review of the new Nikon D3S. This is one incredible camera.  Since I’m not taking the camera on a safari in Africa and I don’t need the incredibly high fps, I keep hoping Nikon will make a similar upgrade to the D700 soon. A D700 replacement should have the same low light performance as the D3S in a lighter package.  There really isn’t anything right now that beats this camera for the kind of low light performance that wedding photography really benefits from.  If Nikon doesn’t upgrade the D700 soon I might just have to go for the D3S.

Family pictures in the cold

Don’t get discouraged about trying for some pictures if you are in the area right now. This family was from Canada so they were probably more used to the cold, but it was only about 45 degrees out and we were still able to get some really nice shots. One thing nice about this time of the year is you don’t have to worry about any crowds in the background. It looks like a deserted beach because it mostly is this time of the year. I also have the $75 sitting fee special so it’s a good deal if you want to go for it even though it’s a little cold.

Website CSS theme switching

I was experimenting with this script http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex9/stylesheetswitcher.htm called style sheet switcher.  It basically allows me to put links on the page that will dynamically change the style sheet or the look of the page.  It’s just for fun, but if you look at the bottom of the site I have a dark night theme now.  Basically it just gets rid of the background and makes the site a basic black color.  This can be a nice way to look at the pictures on the site without a distracting background.  I was also experimenting with a white background theme, but it would take a lot of work, it’s not really worth the effort.

New Nikon 16-35 lens

Nikon just released a sweet looking new lens for landscape photography. I spend most of my time and money getting lenses that would take good portraits of course with the business I’m in. If I can eventually justify the $1300 I bet this lens would take amazing landscape and wide angle shots on a full frame camera like the D700. For portrait work you never want a lens higher than f2.8. This is an f4, but it’s not designed for really short depth of field like you want with a portrait lens.
