I had a wedding up in NC on the beach this weekend. A little further than I usually travel but it worked out fine. The bride had some dress problems, so I ended up with about 45 min with nothing to do. So I went around a took pictures of the little beach chapel, I don’t really like just sitting and waiting. I really liked this picture of the starfish decorations on the end of the seating.
For an indoor wedding I usually put my camera on manual and just take test shots until I get the exposure just right, in this case I believe it was iso200, f2.8, and 1/60. This image is a good example. If I had let the camera decide exposure, likely it would see that really bright light coming in the doorway and try to compensate for that, making everything else too dark. By setting the exposure myself, you get that really cool super bright glow in the doorway, and everything else is just right. Short depth of field and out of focus lights are a couple of the best things for making a cool looking portrait. Well in this case a portrait of a starfish.
